10 Reasons to Buy a New Truck or SUV

Oct. 21, 2014 By Jeff Ross
The post-recession automotive market has been extremely interesting. While Americans now have a greater selection of cars that include plenty of high-quality small cars, the market for larger vehicles remains quite hot as well. Advancements in vehicle design and technology means that there are fewer tradeoffs for truck and SUV buyers to worry about, whether it be safety, comfort or price. At the end of the day, though, these utilitarian vehicles are still expected to be tough, rugged and long-lasting. With that in mind, here are 10 reasons to buy a new truck or SUV.

The new 2015 Ford F-150 features some thoughtful accessory options to buyers don’t have to immediately turn to the aftermarket, such as these loading ramps for loading dirt bikes and ATVs into the truck bed.

Accessories
When it comes to accessorizing vehicles, owners of trucks and SUVs seem to add such custom touches to their rigs with more regularity. The good news is that most automakers have gotten a much better grasp of this market for aftermarket parts and accessories, whether it’s do-it-yourself or dealer-installed components or factory-installed pieces – the coolest of which might be the integrated dual exhaust outlets currently found on the Ram 1500. Even if you do want to stick with true aftermarket parts, it seems that these companies are working more closely with the automakers to have parts ready for sale as the truck or SUV launches rather than having to wait months or years after a new model launch.

Trucks and SUVs inherently offer buyers more space for passengers and cargo compared to conventional cars and sedans, but the advantage of buying new means you get the latest and greatest in terms of interior features and storage solutions, such as the sliding rear cargo deck found in the Toyota 4Runner.

More Space and Practicality
When it comes to modern vehicles, bigger isn’t always better, but if you need a large vehicle to tow or haul people and stuff, the current crop of trucks and SUVs is definitely up to the test. In the last 20 years, the popularity of four-door trucks and full-size SUVs has made it easier for buyers to get the tough and rugged vehicle they need to get the job done without having to sacrifice passenger comfort, which holds especially true for the truck buyers. Along with added passenger space, modern trucks are also more practical and innovative with features such as RamBox adding simple solutions to alleviate some of the challenges of truck ownership.

Jeep’s all-new Cherokee features none of the boxy styling of its predecessor, as it instead features rounded edges and smoother lines more akin to the Grand Cherokee than the Wrangler.

Looks
While you can’t beat the looks of classic pickup trucks and SUVs, the ‘80s and early ‘90s generally didn’t offer buyers too much in the way of exciting styling. That definitely can’t be said for the modern-era vehicles even when it comes to some of the more rugged vehicles on the market. Looking across the truck and SUV landscape, automakers have long ditched the boxy, slab-sided design cues of yesteryear in favor of more stylish (or at least polarizing) vehicles. On the truck side, the latest pickups now have a bold and muscular appearance that reflects their core capabilities, while many SUVs have gone in a somewhat opposite direction breaking away from the bulkier proportions in favor of smoother and cleaner lines.
